The banks are being petitioned, lobbied, and bullied by conservative Christian groups.
This is a reach IMO. I think the last step is because there's a subsection of pornography that is very illegal and if you were to start processing payments for "very illegal thing" then you're liable as you're both providing service to an illegal enterprise and profiting via service fees. Banning incest/beastiality/etc is just an image thing. Mindgeek (pornhub etc) can't process ANY credit card payments, and they're one of the largest websites in the world. Subscribestar isn't the answer either, as someone mentioned it already but they're a timebomb - they're small now but when payment processors take notice, they'll have to kiss the ring too.

I think it's just a matter of time before someone with enough money & backing creates an alternative to all this, but the fact that someone hasn't already just shows how difficult an undertaking it would be. Some kind of crypto-based deposit site could work, but the short version is most people just won't bother. Swapping cash to crypto is too much work, and with all the KYC people are probably just too lazy to jump through all the hoops. I can't blame them tbh, but if more people took the time to learn the basics then they'd realise that's something that really can't be blocked and censored. Oh well.

Reading this just planning to open my patreon one of these weeks, I guess I'll check Subscribestar
I mean, you do you, just don't forget that if they're lucky, subscribestar has 1% of the userbase that Patreon has. You'd be shooting yourself in the foot.

Nah, I'll do the Patreon anyway xD, but I'm still going to check out Subscribestar, just to have a backup. My game doesn't have rape, incest, or disallowing stuff, but reading this is still bad for my self-confidence lol

, and they're a respected and decades old magazine.

One tactic the lobbying groups have is to campaign on issues that most people would agree with - no ********** on websites like Pornhub, age gates, etc., but with the ultimate goal of getting passing legislation to get rid of all porn.

"Exodus Cry does not have a legal agenda to ban all pornography; however, it does maintain that porn use is a detriment to public health for many reasons, including that it normalizes and eroticizes acts of sexual assault and child sexual abuse. "
From their own material, emphasis mine. (I.e. it's not our mission statement, but it that happens, GREAT.)

This is an IMMENSELY powerful group.

From their own list of their notable milestones:
• In 2020, Exodus Cry was credited with prompting Pornhub to delete approximately 10 million videos from its website
• In 2020, Exodus Cry put pressure on Mastercard to cease doing business with Pornhub
• In 2021, xHamster, a major competitor to Pornhub, began implementing significant changes to its website, shifting its entire business model in response to Exodus Cry
• In 2021, Exodus Cry called on Roku, the number one TV/video streaming platform in the U.S. As a result, Roku ceased hosting all porn channels.
• In 2022, the CEO and COO of Pornhub’s parent company, MindGeek, resigned from the company after leading it for ten years because of Exodus Cry's work.

“Exodus Cry is among the most strategic thinkers in this movement! From the beginning, its leadership has boldly confronted the roots of sexual harm, including pornography, sex buyers, objectification, prostitution, and more. It is unwilling to retreat from proclaiming the truth despite the opposition hurled at the organization, or the reticence of the general public to listen. Its persistence, passion, and hope has paid off as we are seeing great damage to the sexual exploitation industry largely thanks to Exodus Cry’s work.”
And you should note that they include girls doing OnlyFans as "prostitution", and any girl using sex to make money as "being exploited". If the woman objects, her mind has sadly been warped by exposure to pornography.

Look, the kink I'm mad is banned on Patreon is incest. I don't really have a care about the loli or bestiality stuff.

But I think it is worth noting that fictional loli content, as well as fictional bestiality stories, etc. are legal in much of the US. (A few nanny states not-withstanding.) Same for FICTIONAL incest. A creator should be able to create fictional works and make money off of them for any of these topics if they so choose.

I mean, if Game of Thrones was a NSFW game made by someone, it couldn't be on Patreon. But it can be a TV show everyone in the country watches and talks about with their co-workers.

I hope you're right, but it's worth noting the uphill battle that would face, since once it became known well enough, groups like Exodus Cry would lobby governments to shutdown something they would claim is just a front for illegal activity. "Why use a service like this when legal and open means of payment are available?" they would cry, leaving out that it would be because of their own efforts to make sure there were no alternatives.

From what I've personally heard (some relatives are in the government and some are very high-ranking members in a couple of denominations), most Christian lobbying firms DO NOT advertise what they do except in friendly areas of the internet or in certain church-run or "affiliated" publications. One person even said that changes work better in the shadows and back channels so I responded that it sounds suspiciously like a government. They replied that I'm on the right train of thought.
IMO, I think some churches will act like there's a decline in the faith like they're under attack to make it sound like they're doing something right and are being targeted for that. I read an article recently talking about a general decline in the numbers of the "faithful" and it was blaming it on the rise of extremism by the "godless left" citing issues like "gender ideology", "non-traditional roles", etc. Instead of exploring solutions to the "dwindling numbers", it kept harping on the "relentless attacks" on "christian family values" and stated that "outreach efforts" have been increased. To me, it sounded like a dog whistle for the religious right and a way for certain politicians to get talking points.
I know there's been an outreach for more members even in my area of the USA which is 60-65% conservative and in every single case, there's discussion of "we're under attack!" or some stupid shtick like that. I just shrug it off and act like I'm already a member of a denomination so there's no need to convince me and I'm more concerned about local issues over the international/national situations. If I act like I'm offended or disbelieving it, they get really riled up and loud which gets more attention from others so I just play along to get them to shut up and go away. It's seriously annoying at this point. To make a further point, I've been to places like Seattle and Portland in the last few years and I've NEVER EVER been approached by someone preaching anything left-wing. It is ALWAYS right wing or the religious right. Every. Single. Fucking. Time. It's beyond ridiculous.

The longer this discussion goes on, the longer the posts get. Use SubscribeStar, message devs you wish to support who have Patreons and ask for alternatives like SubscribeStar. If you want to be that guy, tell the dev you won't use Patreon even if no alternative is there.

If 18 year old girls are too young to understand the consequences of selling naked pictures of themselves, then 18 year old boys are too young to understand the consequences of joining the military and the long term negative results to their mental health that will result from it.

Should we just keep everyone locked in the nursery until their brain develops fully at age 25 before we allow them to make any personal decisions?
The difference is that those 18 year old soldiers are contributing something to society. Which does not mean I fully disagree with your argument, because it is a fair point.

But yeah, I do think the age of majority should be raised.

As a vet myself, who had friends (including my best friend) die for pointless wars (that as much as I struggle to find any meaning in) seemed to accomplish nothing, I would argue an 18 year old girl selling nude photos of herself online and an 18 year old boy picking up PTSD or dying in war contribute about the same amount of value to society, though the girl may be bringing a little more joy into the world.
